"We an opportunity for team building but I am unsure about the best content for the event"

The reality of working life is that team members are often so busy with their individual tasks and responsibilities that the needs of the team take a back seat. Opportunities for team building are intermittent and may need to be grabbed with both hands.

We have, over the years, found that most of our customers approach arranging team development from two angles:

Angle One:

Begins with the activity that will form the cornerstone of your event - this is the Activity-Driven approach.

Angle Two

Begins from the outcomes you want from your event - this is the Outcome-Driven approach.

Activity-Driven:

Many teams and organisers think first about the activities that appeal. For example, you may favour something indoors and more gently-paced. For others, something active and challenging will work well. The Activity-Driven approach is useful if the team has expressed a desire to try a particular activity or event. Teams and Team Leaders that are high in the activist tendency may favour this approach! With Eventus you can be sure that the activity you select will also be presented and facilitated in such a way as to maximise the learning opportunities. All of our team activities are a means to an end. They encourage teamwork and reinforce the value and importance of a collaborative team approach. We hope that we have some great ideas to catch your interest! Take a look at our Events page. All these activity ideas can be readily incorporated into a facilitated team development event.

Outcome-Driven:

This is the best approach if you have specific learning objectives for your team development event. With this approach, we start with the end in mind and design a programme to address the aims and objectives you have identified. The clearer you can be about what you want from your team development event, the clearer we can be in designing our solution. We frequently are asked to design team interventions that address one or more of the following aims:

"We've just come through a period of restructuring and now need to focus on the challenges ahead"

"We've all worked really hard over the last 6 months so we need to recognise this but also be ready for what lies ahead"

"This is a new team and we need to hit the road running"

"We have identified "communication" as being an area that we need to improve but how can we do it?"

"It's important for us to pause, see where we are at as a team, to identify our strengths and weaknesses and agree how we can move forward"

"There is conflict within the team and I need some help in resolving it and building a stronger sense of the team"

"We work in our smaller units but need to recognise that we are a single team"

These statements are just a few examples of recent conversations we have had with team members and team leaders interested in our Facilitated Team Development Events. With a bit more work, these statements can be worked in to clear objectives. We then develop a solution to achieve the agreed objectives. In some cases this may require further diagnostic work with you. We may agree to include theoretical models of team dynamics to support the event. Behavioural Questionnaires can be valuable to illustrate the different talents and preferences within the team.

Remember, we are here to help. Arranging a team event can be a daunting task. Call us now on+44 (0)1558 668925 or use the email enquiry form and we'll help you to make it happen!
