This is an active and highly competitive team event
involving teamwork, leadership, problem-solving and decision-making
skills.
The event takes place in an area of forest and at a
number of different sites throughout the UK, including
Manchester, Northamptonshire, Berkshire, New Forest, Royal
Forest of Dean, West Midlands, South East and South West plus others...so there
should be a site convenient for you.
All
teams attend an initial briefing at which equipment
is allocated, training is given and route maps prepared.
Orienteering skills are useful, however all participants
will receive a short refresher in map reading before
the event begins. Teams then need to navigate their
way to a number of problem-solving challenge sites,
to arrive by a specified time. Bonuses can be collected
on the way...however teams need to focus on priorities.
At
each challenge site, teams undertake a different team
challenge. Problem Solving Challenges vary in nature,
being designed to draw out different qualities and skills
from within the team. In each case, teams must ensure
that they have read, understood and adhered to all the
conditions specified in the Challenge Briefing Sheet.
Event staff, based at challenge sites, take note of
how each team performs. This information (in the form
of bonus and penalty points) is not revealed at this
stage but is held back to an award ceremony at the end
of the event. Teams are encouraged to review how they
are operating as they move from challenge to challenge.
Although an active event, this
is not an event that requires a level of fitness beyond
that of a reasonably
active person. Participants should be capable of a brisk
walking pace…running is not required! The emphasis
is very much upon working as a team and competing against
other teams.
At the end of the event, participants receive a certificate
acknowledging their achievement in completing the Forest
Challenge. And, of course, the winning team is awarded
the prize! Teams receive a breakdown of their performance
so they can see where points were picked up (and dropped!).
If required, we can arrange for each team to receive
feedback and a debrief with our Event Co-ordinator.
This is an ideal event for an awayday for an active team that seeks a real challenge in the great outdoors - a challenge that requires teamwork and commitment and brings a great sense of achievement.
