The Talybont Trail is
the name we have given to one of
our favourite events in the Brecon Beacons National Park
of South Wales. This is an ideal event if you want an active teambuilding
day to accompany an off-site team meeting or as a stand-alone
awayday.
Our base for the event is Talybont on
Usk, near Crickhowell
- an attractive small town in the Usk Valley - reached
within the hour
from the Severn Crossing or a little over the hour from
the West Midlands. We make use of a number of attractive
country hotels and coaching inns including "The Bear" -
winner of numerous "Pub of the Year" awards; in fact, our participants like it so much they frequently
make return visits with partners and friends. The real
fires, great food, choice of ales, and fine scenery take
some beating!
The Talybont Trail is a full day that requires planning,
co-ordination, problem solving and teamwork. After a
thorough briefing, your team draws up a plan of action,
plots their route on maps, collects and packs equipment
and allocates roles and responsibilities. A facilitator
will work with your team to ensure the event is positively
and professionally presented and debriefed upon completion.
All necessary training and equipment is given with close
attention to safe practices.
The journey undertaken (The
Talybont Trail) is in three stages: The first takes
place using Canadian Canoes along the "Brec & Mon" canal including
the daunting 400 metre long Ashford Tunnel. Later, you
are on foot traversing or (if you feel energetic!) climbing
Tor y Foel (the Welsh for "Steep Bare Hill"). The views are superb. From
Tor y Foel we pick up mountain-bikes for an exhilarating
descent on forest-tracks back to our start point.
As the journey unfolds a sequence of team challenges
are encountered. These require your team to stop, think
and overcome specific team challenges. The reward: a
set of clues that, when pieced together, will guide you
to a hidden treasure box - your prize for completing
The Talybont Trail.
This is an active event that
is however fully within the scope of any reasonably
active person - you do not
need to be fit or have experience of outdoor activities.
To finish we return to your hotel for hot baths/showers
and a most welcome drink from the bar - a memorable day!
