Yesterday I came across this image doing the rounds on social media and it caught my eye. I’m guessing it was produced some years ago though I have not been able to find the original source. In the light of events, it’s perhaps unlikely that Lance Armstrong would, today, be chosen for a quote. Thomas Edison also seems to attract a wide range of differing opinions.

Putting that to one side, I rather liked the picture, and its message. I can relate to it as I dismissed, pondered, ummed and aahed, entered with trepidation, doubted, prepared, and then finally started and completed both the 2019 Montane Spine Race and the 2019 Berghaus Dragon’s Back Race. There are posts on this blog about each of these endeavours and the ups and downs I faced taking on a big new challenge.
We all have our own “mountains” to climb. And feelings such as “I can’t…” and “I wish I could…” is something most people will recognise. Getting from “I won’t…” and “I can’t” to “I am…” and “I did…” is what our Summit or Bust activity is all about. It too uses the ascent of a mountain (Everest) as a way of thinking about our chance of success on any difficult but worthwhile endeavour.
This is perhaps one of the reasons it has been one of our top-selling activities in the last few years.
