As we all know, today is the third Thursday of November. What is exciting about that I hear you ask…well dating back to 1938, the French wine – Beaujolais Nouveau – had restrictions placed on it detailing where and when it could be released and distributed. In 1951 it was officially decided that November 15th would be the new release date. Once again in 1985, this date was changed to coincide with the third Thursday of November – one primary reason was to make the weekend last longer with all the celebrations going on! In 1985, this became an incredibly popular worldwide event to see who could serve the first bottle of this wine! This wine has since been transported in all sorts of ways, including an elephant, camel and even by Concord!

Over the years, this event in the wine calendar has waned and dipped a bit, but it still retains some of the magic and fun and lightheartedness – of which this wine is known for!

Beaujolais Nouveau is the rosiest of reds which is actually nearer to white wines – making it a perfect introductory red wine!

Amazingly, due to the whole process of actually making this fun and fabulous wine, the grapes can only be harvested by hand and French law dictates this! (There is a whole other story involved with the making of this wine which we wont go into at this time)
