If you’ve been following this blog you’ll know that our Managing Director Phil England attempted the Bob Graham Round, arguably the most demanding test of physical fitness available to British Athletes or mountaineers. The attempt has to be registered and witnessed. Just over 1500 people have only ever completed this challenge since the first attempt in 1932
Last week, Phil became the latest member to join the exclusive Bob Graham 24 Hour Club completing a run over 42 of the highest mountains in England, covering a distance of 66 miles with over 27,000 feet of ascent (that’s nearly the height of Everest!) and 27,000 feet of descent within 24 hours.
Phil completed the run in 23 hours and 28 minutes attributes his success to the teamwork that went on around him during his attempt. A fantastic team of supporters worked around the 24 hour clock to feed, water and encourage him when the going got really tough. Phil said “It was a classic lesson in team working. I have dreamt about doing this for years and I could not have done this without the encouragement and back-up support from the people who gave up their time to help me. I am truly grateful”
Phil is no stranger to challenges. He beat his own battle with cancer 10 years ago and competes every year in the gruelling Original Mountain Marathon. Last year he was hailed a hero after a dramatic rescue in the flood abandoned event.
Phil has put his efforts to good cause and is raising funds for “The Make-a-Wish Foundation” He can be sponsored at www.justgiving.com/phil-england
Phil England is Managing Director of Llandeilo based team building company Eventus Training & Events Ltd. He is also a keen orienteer with Swansea Bay Orienteering Club and is often to be seen pacing a route around Dinefwr Park, Llandeilo and on the Black Mountain.
