Is “Gamification” the way forward within the learning environment?
Wikipedia states:
Gamification is the use of game thinking and game mechanics in non-game contexts to engage users in solving problems.
Wikipedia also suggests some of the main purposes of gamification being to engage, teach, entertain, measure (for recruiting and employee evaluation), and to improve the perceived ease of use of information systems.
So is “gamification” the way forward?
Rapid interest in our gamified Creative Challenge Event using mobile and tablet technology seems to suggest so, both in this country and overseas.
Here at Eventus we have been organising team building training & events for over 25 years. We now have several new events that could be perceived as “gamified”: Creative Challenge, Interactive Quizzes for conferences and brand new Digital Escape
Companies are always looking for new, novel and interesting ways to engage with staff and customers and why shouldn’t it also be fun.
Gamified activities such as our Creative Challenge can be used as a fun welcome respite from the heavy content of a conference in the form of question and answer quizzes and treasure hunts. But games such as these can also be packed full of useful information about new company products, new marketing strategies, approaches and benefits.
Our gamified events are very useful for:
- Collaboration exercise
- Identifying areas of expertise and specialist knowledge within a team
- Information sharing
- Consensual decision-making
- As a fun team bonding exercise
Other benefits include:
- Photographs used as part of the event are valuable keepsakes and records of the day
- Easy-to-use mobile apps can be used for a whole series of individually tailored challenges
